hey guys. Me and my friend have been having some trouble with this hydro grow we've been doing. It's our first hydro grow and its been rocky from the start. We originally germinated seeds. But the temp got too hot and killed them. So we got an air conditioner and Thankfully someone else we knew had some starter plants we could use but they were in soil. So we removed the soil and put them in our hydro setup. So I just made a new DWC system that I'm really excited to run and I've found myself in a predicament. Out here in Hawaii it's very difficult to get expanded clay on this particular island and I've only managed to find a small bag so far. I finally sprouted a couple seeds (afghan) in rapid rooters!! but i have a few questions! I used rapid rooters to germinate/sprout in a dome/tray and used a water bottle to spray and keep everything moist.. then after a week i transplanted to the hydroton. the bottom of the rapid rooters are like 1/4-1/2" from the flood level. Hey Hydro team, I have been having some serious trouble cloning recently, and it has led me to experiment with a few different cloners. I use rockwool by default, but recently built an areoponic cloner (H2O2, no nutes) with 1/30 success rate. My rockwool cloning is not much better, I attempt to follow ALBFUC method (no nutes H2O2), I can get 50% to survive 2 weeks, with no roots showing, out of desperation I place them in hydrogton in a flood table (~1 EC) and then they start growing roots... So this just randomly happened, just did a fresh nute change wednesday and havent noticed anymore on the new growth. I have a 600 watt led that I believe was too close to my biggest plant so I backed it up a few inches too. In soil, I'm used to growing in 15-19Lt. pots and I water 1.5Ltr water with nutes every 2 days. So that would be 4.5Ltr water with nutes per week. If I start using DWC, if the bucket is 19ltr that requires water change once a week(some say once every two weeks), then I would spend 19ltrs of water WITH NUTES per week instead of 4.5ltrs like in soil. I want to do a top drip on 12 buckets. I want to find something better than those rain bird type emitters because they have poor flow distribution (only drips on one little area of the pot), and they have uneven flow when connecting more than one or two pots. My understanding is that if you want even water distribution you either have to have all your lines be the exact same length, or use pressure compensating emitters. Blocks are not drying at the same rate, some plants are drooping for water while other still have water weight. Had a turbulent week. Had a bad extension cord two nights ago and my lights shut off sometime during the night. Not sure when. In middle of a low pressure aero rail grow, and am not happy with the rail design and res being in the tent. Thinking about incorporating RDWC waterfall design, but instead of water just falling into the buckets and recirculating back constantly with the roots constantly in water, I'd make more like an individual aero in each 5 gal bucket with pipe running the perimeter of the inside of top and spraying down, then draining back through pipes to a res outside the tent. Hey people lets talk about cloning temperatures...some say 70 some say 80. When I take clones using Rapid Rooters and a Dome... I get quicker roots in summertime when the temp is 80... in the wintertime the temp drops down to around 70 and the clones take twice as long to root. Hey guys, I've done a few indoor grows quite a few years ago and recently the bug bit to get back into it. My first set-up is working pretty well - I've got what I would say is a typical set-up (Aquatec, accumulator, Tefen Nozzles, Cycle Timer...) and have been using advanced nutrients pH perfect Bloom, Micro, and Grow, along with some CalMag. Its working well, but in the future I''m hoping to simplify / economize my nutrients. I like the idea of using a water soluble nutrient (Like Jacks, or MaxiBloom) but... Hello all, I grow RDWC and intend to use GH Ripen for the last 10 days followed by a 3 day flush. Growing "Delicious Eleven Roses" which seems to be a genuine 8.5 - 9 week finish after flip. Intend doing a change out (apart from the inch or so in the bottom of the tubs) then feeding Ripen ONLY for 8 -10 days prior to a 3 day flush (does this sound about right?) In the GH Europe guide for Ripen it says feed alone with NO other nutrients or additives, at 0.5ec (250 ppm) above normal... Little before and after going into flowering. Flipped to 12/12 last week. Keeping her short. She is 15” tall. She fills in as fast as I can cut her. Little LST while I was at it. All tops have been FIM’d. I’ll post some before and after pics from last weeks defoliation to show how fast she grows. And that stalk is near an inch and a half thick!
