PH issues with rez

Im having problems with keeping my ph down, and looking for suggestions. I have been fighting this from the start (2 + years) I am running a recurlating nft, stinkbud style, with a 11gal sterile res, with air stones. and jacks 321 nutrients. With no other suppliments. My tap water runs about 300ppm, and a ph around 7.0-7.2. About a year ago I installed a RO/DI system to try to help lower my ppm/ec. The RO is running about 8ppm and 6.8ph Since then i have tried everything from 10% RO... PH issues with rez from Hydroponics / Aeroponics read more

Coco Coir Medium

I mixed a medium batch that is 7 parts coco coir (double buffered, CaliMag), 2 parts perlite, and 2 parts worm castings. I did a slurry test and the pH=6.7 PPM=779 EC=1.65 TDS=968. I'd like to lower these numbers across the board before I plant into this mix. Does anybody have any idea how to do that. Any help would be much appreciated. from Hydroponics / Aeroponics read more

Autopot users: any salt issues? Benefits vs drip?

Been back and forth on running an autopot or drip system in a second grow room of mine. I've been concerned about salt buildup with auto pots so have been leaning drip. I'm trying to find some of the benefits to running autopot vs drip emitters and am coming up short. So, autopot users, I ask you this: Why did you choose to go with autopot over a drip system? Have you had any major salt problems in the media? Any workarounds? from Hydroponics / Aeroponics read more

Possible nute lock, will cuttings be ok?

hello good afternoon. quick question on nute lock in DWC. In week 5 rn started from seed & plants were going good then maybe 8-9 days ago slightly over fed and haven't seen any growth in past few days. I topped the res this AM and if by Wed/Thurs water level shows they're not feeding then yep, 100% nute lock. Question is if i take cuttings today, if a plant has nute lock will the cuttings be good? someone help me with a good diy RDWC suggestion

I cant seem to find any good builds for a simple 4-5 plant RDWC with a control tote for doing ph/ppm adjustments. I used to find them all the time here and am coming up empty. Right now doing the 5 gal bubble buckets and swapping out every week with new water/nutes. theres gotta be an easier way so that can start netting up the babies and not always moving them from one bucket to another during water changes right?1!!! from Hydroponics / Aeroponics read more

How can I make my DWC into an RDWC

I have two sets of those 8 bucket DWC systems off amazon... bought some extra stones and air pumps. Using Zerotol HC on the root zone in flood and drain?

Greetings RIU! I am ramping up research for my next grow, and I stumbled upon Zerotol HC (CH3CO3H aka Peracetic acid), an organic acid that acts as a treatment or preventative measure for molds, mildews, and fungi. I had to harvest my first grow somewhat pre mature because of poor airflow leading to early stage boyritis on the very top of one of my plants. I have since upgraded to a tower fan that will hang sideways, across from the fan I was using prior, but I digress... My understanding... Nutrient Soup

What's in YOUR res? I've tried many hydro nutrients over the years, and I'm always checking out new products, and occasionally even switching. What I'd like to know is what do you use, and why. If the answer is 'because a friend said to,' or 'the hydro store guy,' then say that. I've tried many things because someone said to, or because of something I've read, so this is how all of us learn. And then we can discuss each recipe. Potroast's Nutrient Soup ... Germinating with aeroponics

How yall doin? I was going to start an aeroponic grow. I am aiming for something with no medium at all. No rockwool, no hydroton, or anything else. I will use neoprene collars to hold the stems, but i have a question about seed germination. People usually grow a mother plant in soil and then just take clones and put them in aeroponics. Remember that maxi precipitation issue I was having? GH just reformulated their calimagic. Shocker, right? :)

I recently stopped using maxi and switched to Jack's 5-12-26 due to continuous unresolved calcium precipitation issues that contaminated my reservoirs endlessly. I tried everything to prevent the problem. RO water. Tap water. Hot. Cold. Don't add PH up until the day of water in. Omit the Armor SI. Mix PH up with a gallon of RO water and slowly add to the reservoir. Rub my tummy and tap my head at the same time while I pray for no precipitation. Nothing worked. Add maxi ONLY to the reservoir... Diy hydroponic filter ideas

Ok so I'm currently running RDWC and I recently upgraded the water pump to get more circulation. The pump I ordered is very powerful but cheap as it doesn't have no filter at all. I looked around my house and finally I took a 5 gallon fabric pot and placed the pump inside the pot. I then wire tied top to help seal it up. Questions about EC levels in hydro, interpreting EC rise, and native EC from tap

So I’ve got an approx 25-30gal RDWC that houses up to 4 plants and I’ve never once seen my EC levels go down over time no matter how little I feed and what I set them at. 4 weeks into flowering and I can barely feed at 1.0 EC (500 ppm) and it will end up holding steady as water levels go down. If I up the EC to something like 1.3 (650 ppm) I start to see a slow rise, but really slow like +10 ppm a day) my first question is with a total volume of nearly 30gals I know the effect of rising and... RO water with GHE tripart nutrients = calcium defiency?

Hey guys, simple questions if you have any experience on the matter: So my tap water is essentially RO, with only 0.08 EC. Now I got 2x plants in hydro (2x NFT) and the other plant is showing decent amount of Calcium defiency while the other doesn't virtually have any defiency. Measuring EC / PPM in a flood and drain system

I run a flood and drain setup with a res, one control pot and 4 grow pots. For the most part, it really is a walk in the park. Easy as you like. The exception for me is the measuring of the EC. I have both a Blue Lab PH Controller as well as a Blue Lab Guardian, so I am always closely monitoring and recording my statistics. An alarm to tell me if my hydroponics pump failed?

An Idiot's Guide to Hempy

Hempy Style Hempy buckets are by far the easiest, cheapest and most cost effective way to grow hydroponically. 5gal, dwc bucket insulation

Does anyone know if, and where they sell styrofoam insulation sleeves that a 5gal bucket would fit into. I have looked and I can't find it. Do they even make these? And if not, WHY? seems like such a cheap simple, easy idea. Kinda like those cheap coolers you can get for 1.99 at any gas station. I'm thinking one designed specifically for dwc buckets. Material for keeping DWC bucket temperatures low

As we all know one of the challenges in DWC is keeping the temps in the rez/buckets low. A chiller is an expensive option. Insulating buckets and reservoir will only help keep the temps that are already in the containers . Having a concrete floor and placing a large, relatively flat reservoir directly on it also helps the cause. Due to the overflow height I have to raise the DWC buckets off the floor to be above the rez but I do want to leverage the cold concrete floor to cool the buckets... High PPM BS!!!

Is less hydroton better?

Quick question. I'm new to using ebb and grow buckets. I'm experienced with flood tables using 3 or 4 inch net pots filled with hydroton. My ebb and grow system is 2 gallon buckets filled with hydroton. Is a bucket filled all the way up with hydroton better than say a 6 inch net pot within the 2 gallon buckets, so the rroots hang?
