7x5 flower room 8 site rdwc overkill?

I'm possibly thinking of switching to RDWC pretty soon.. I don't want to deal with coco anymore. I currently have a flower room that is 7x5. Would doing a 8 site rdwc in 5 gallon buckets be over kill? How would totes go compared to buckets? HD/LOWES currently have 27gallon totes for like $9 bucks.. I could do 2 plants in one and get like 4 totes?
