Hydroponics: Touching water or not?

So I had a simple question. When starting to grow without soil, does the rockwool have it be TOUCHING the water or do I keep my water line below my pots? Will the roots grow into the water or do I have to have the water line touching the bottom of the rockwool, please help, thanks. RDWC Setup Idea

Any thoughts on why you couldn't direct the return water supply in a current culture type set up to the main/top off reservoir outside the tent instead of the epic center inside the tent? My thoughts are by directing the return into the topoff resistor sitting out side the tent, with the ambient temp year round at 60-65%, I could cut cost or even eliminate the use of a water chiller. Also by incorporating the volume of water in the top off res would help stabilize ph. I would have to set it... Knowing What to "Top It Off" With

I'm in my 3rd grow right now with 5 Auto Northern Lights plants in a 4'x4' grow tent using hydroponics. My nutes are the GH Flora Series (Micro, Grow, Bloom) with Calimagic. Hydroguard and Koolbloom (during flowering stage). I meticulously check my reservoir twice daily (morning and night) and among other things, measure pH, PPM, water temp, air temp and rH. Why do people cut back on feedings at night with hydro?

One of the earliest comments I got when I decided to use an auto siphon in my hydro setup was that I would be feeding/flooding too often - especially at night. It was suggested that the plants dont feed as much, or maybe not at all, during the night, so all you needed to do was keep the roots from drying out. However, I have been monitoring my rez water levels since I started this grow and just finished another day/night cycle with even closer checking. It turns out my plants drink almost... Stop roots traveling back down system- Simple fix

No matter what size of pots I use, I end up with my roots heading down the pipe that delivers water around the RDWC system. This causes blocks and encourages your system to green swamp-gunge up if it gets bad. To combat this from happening I have tried everything over the years. My solution is to get The roots, pull any roots out of the pipes until they are all back in the pots again. I’ll then take the tail end of the root/ leader and start wrapping it around the air stone. First time hydro, going to try Ebb/Flow - is this a reasonable plan?

Hello everyone! I am hoping to get some feedback on my first ever hydro plans. Im in the final weeks of my first MJ grow in soil and its going pretty well. I have decided that I want to try a hydro grow next time around. After tons of reading, I have decided to try an ebb/flow setup with two plants in scrog. My grow tent is roughly 7 sq ft (28”x38”x48”tall) and I have a 300 watts LED light fixture using 3500k Solstrips (the same led’s as in Quantum Boards). I have read a ton of threads and... interchangeable feeding schedules

I'm comparing a feeding schedules of two nutrients (GH flora series and Holland's Secret) and the NPK values are very close grow 2-1-6 GH 2-1-7 HS micro 5-0-1 GH 5-0-2 HS bloom 0-5-4 GS 0-6-4 HS The feeding schedules from the manufacturer seem really far off. I've read some different feeding schedules that have worked for the flora series and I'm wondering if I could just use that with the Holland's secret (can get it local). I know they're not all created equal. any thoughts? pH constantly at 3.5

Hi. So this morning I checked my pH of my water, and it was 3.5. I noticed that the leaves started turning yellow (my plants are a week old and a bit. Their roots havent left the pot yet). I put in some pH up, and it didn't work. All in all, I put a total of 50ml of pH up today, and it doesn't work. It used to work to control pH, but now it doesn't. Anything I can do? There is a tiny bit of algae on the rockwool, but that's managable and I am putting h2o2 now. I doubt it's that. How do you mix your nutrients?

Say you have a 5gal DWC. Would you mix a gallon jug with a five gallon concentration of whatever nutrient mix you’re using, then pour into your res to your preferred ppm every time you top up with water?
